Borrowed eyes & effects
Power has a price. Hunters can take a beast’s elemental gift without becoming a beast.

Ocean eye
Immunity to abyssal radiation, plus 65% resistance to ocean beam damage. Successful melee and ranged attacks apply abyssal radiation.

Gila eye
Immunity to fire, lava, kindling, and Gila Burn. Successful melee and ranged attacks apply the stronger Gila Burn. Gila marks grow as tusks.
How to use them
As a hunter, use an eye to consume it and activate that species’ power. You can have one ocean eye and one gila eye active at the same time. A duplicate of an already active species is refused.
These are the eyes you have activated, not spare eyes in your inventory. Eyes do not unlock new kaiju forms in 3.0.0.
How garrisons react
| Active eyes | Garrison response | Summoned troops |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | Protect you as a hunter. | Use your actual rank. |
| 1 | Withdraw protection, without turning hostile just for that eye. | Use one rank lower. |
| 2 | Treat you as an enemy, including the Hunter King. | Use two ranks lower; your own summoned troops remain loyal. |
Giving up a power
Hold an eye of the matching species, then Sneak + use it. This removes that species’ active power. The eye in your hand is not consumed, but the power you previously consumed is lost rather than refunded. You can do this away from a settlement, so hostile garrisons do not trap you in the choice.
Know the effects
| Effect | What it means |
|---|---|
| Abyssal radiation | Hurts and weakens exposed creatures and can cause nausea. Ocean-eye attacks apply it for 6 seconds. Staying near a radiation source can keep refreshing exposure. |
| Gila Burn | A stronger lingering burn: 20 seconds, dealing 2 damage points per second before other protections—twice ordinary burning. Water or rain can extinguish it. |
| Venom | The gila bite’s poison. Other gilas and gila-eye hunters can still suffer it. The gila eye does not grant venom immunity. |
Both eyes together can apply both attack effects. These effects require a successful hit. Damage over time does not repeatedly trigger more eye attack effects.
